I’ve never been to a dog event before, so it was a first. I have recently launched a ‘Pet & Owner’ portrait photography service. This is photography for animal-lovers in London and Essex, and where better to find animal lovers, the Essex Dog Day.  I decided to visit and meet a few of the stars of the show.
My new portrait photography service is all about celebrating the bond shared between the pet and owner. It was fascinating to see such a vast number of different breeds…and it was amusing to watch the ‘Dog Most Like Its Owner’ competition. The Essex Dog Day was evidently a very entertaining day out for the whole family – with or without a dog!
There were some really stunning looking dogs and I found myself falling in love over and over again (with the dogs, of course!). I would love to have a dog, but because of my wanderlust to travel and explore the world before I am fifty, my husband and I settled for having cats instead.
Our cats are both very independent and they are constantly coming and going – but occasionally, they will stop and pay me some attention. I love my cats dearly, however, the relationship I have with my cats isn’t much in comparison to the companionship that you can have with a dog. Sometimes I really feel as though I am missing out by not having a dog.
My gratitude goes to those people who very kindly spared me a few minutes to take their pet and owner portrait at the Essex Dog Day to use alongside this blog. Thank you again.
Here are a few of my favourites, but please note that it can take considerably longer than these mini-shoots to capture the perfect pet portrait. After all, you can’t rush art, and you definitely can’t rush dogs!

The relationship between these owners and their dog is unique, and I believe that makes a portrait well worth capturing. After meeting several, simply gorgeous dogs, my heart is now set on a Husky – they say that the Siberian Husky has a ‘love of life and free spirit’. Personally, I think that makes us soul mates.
