Sharing My Knowledge and Experience From Behind the Camera!
For those who have never experienced it, Boudoir Photography is the creation of soft, romantic, sexy or sensual images usually photographed in a bedroom. These images are often taken as a gift for a special loved one and the main focus of the photographer is to capture you in the most flattering way by guiding you through the poses that compliment your body type.
If you are considering having a Boudoir Photography session here is my list of pre photo-shoot do’s and don’ts
DO Prepare Physically
This does not mean go on a crazy diet, go mad in the gym or have some drastic surgical or non-surgical nip, tuck or injection! You are absolutely beautiful the way you are and it’s my job – as the photographer, to show that beauty in the images I take.
What it does mean is make sure you are properly groomed. Waxing, shaving, plucking, and painting your nails, getting a spray tan etc. You don’t want to realise on the day of the shoot that you haven’t shaved your legs in a week!
DO Exfoliate and Moisturize
This means all over and more than just the night or morning before. To add to the beneficial effects of all tis scrubbing and moisturising make sure you keep your water intake at least 1.5 litres a day. It will keep you fully hydrated and your skin and eyes will show the benefits in all the photographs.
DO Think About Your Hair and Make-Up before the Day of the Shoot
Know what ‘look’ you are going for and do a few ‘dry runs’ before the day of the shoot. Of course you may want to bring along someone to do your Make-Up and hair.
DO Have a Few Outfits and Don’t Forget Accessories
A selection of underwear in different shapes and colours; a variety of earrings, necklaces or feather boas; and don’t forget some killer heels!
DO Practice Poses in the Mirror
You may feel a bit self-conscious or silly doing this before the actual photo-shoot, but it will get you into the habit of smiling and moving your body into a variety of poses. Don’t worry, on the day you will get loads of help and posing hits, tips and instructions.
DO Have a Really Fantastic Time!
Now here are some Don’ts
DON’T Groom on the Day or the Night Before
Do all of this well in advance as you need to let your skin rest before the shoot.
DON’T Start Using a New Skin Regime before the Photo-Shoot
If you have a bad reaction to anything new you use it could lead to redness, bumps, or a rash – these are not easy to hide
DON’T Go Overboard on Shimmer Products
Shimmer make-up products and body lotions reflect light and can create a really bad effect when being photographed.
DON’T Think You Only Have to Wear Lingerie
Underwear can be very sexy, but Boudoir Photography does not have to be sexy; it can also be romantic, soft or sensual. You can look just as great in off-the-shoulder tops, men’s shirts, veils, garters, fur … let your imagination run riot.
DON’T Forget to Smile
Sensual does not have to mean serious. Use lots of different expressions as this will give you far more choice in the prints you choose at the end of the photo-shot.
So come and book your special boudoir photo-shoot with me.
